the business with food

Here's the thing. I work hard to make sure my kids eat healthy, well balanced meals- EVERY meal. It's kinda a way of life for us. We don't even think about it. Til lately, when Anna brings home her lunch box from school FULL of what she left with in the morning. I've started to become a bit mean about it with her. "If you don't eat your lunch, we are going to make you come home for lunch, every day" ... No! mom!! I want to eat lunch with my people!
So, Friday I took a picture of Brooke's lunch. I thought it looked very pretty. Cocktail bread with tuna, breadsticks with hummus and apples. MMmmmm chocolate milk!
And 2 minutes later (not kidding), Arissa sends me THIS with a comment "this woman is INSANE!"
I am sooo inspired! Send me some lunch container, doo-dad FUN people!!!

It's a Barbie world.

You've probably seen this photo before. I took it a year ago.
I woke up to find that Barbie hung herself.
I figure she didn't like that she had cinderella's dress on.

The girls really love their barbies. In fact, anytime we go shopping for a toy they want a Barbie.. And I ask them "Why? They always end up with their clothes off and their hair all un-did." Oh MOM! I promise I will leave their clothes on this time!

Over the past summer Anna and Brooke started a game of chucking Barbies up in to the trees in our backyard and Chris would come out with a broom and ladder and whack them out..... Then he'd say "stop throwing your Barbies in the trees! We've bought you a bazillion Barbies and they always end up in the trees!".. and Arissa would say, "Be kind to your toys. Don't show aggression toward them. Show them LOVE!"
Anna would giggle and continue hucking them up there..
Last night while  I was in the hot tub, I spotted a few Barbies left over from the summer festivities. I think I'll leave them up there until Chris notices them and comes outside with his broom!

No Spend September? It was a breeze!!

See all about "no spend September"
Done. we did it. We completed a month of no spending.  It was easy! Anyone can do it!!! As long as your kid doesn't get sent to the ortho for a $500 retainer and double tooth extraction . .. and as long as you don't drown your sorrows (from your six your old screaming, spitting and snorting while mom pats said childs shin and says "it's ok, I promise! I'll buy you a pony. No, make that 2 ponies!".. during the retainer installation and double tooth extraction) at the mall and buy new jeans and some shirts for the upcoming trip to Toronto. Uh.. and then there were those 4 West Jet tickets and 3 hotel bookings for the upcoming trip to Toronto.. But other than that.. WE DID IT! and you can too. In all seriousness, we did come out on top! Like a month-worth-of-groceries on top- and we buy a lot of wine groceries!
