Dylan turns 1!

We had a very simple party after Anna came home from school on Wednesday.. We knew we had a short window to celebrate, because Anna comes home at 3pm and Dylan goes to bed at 6pm. We liked our simple party. Cake, a few presents. The birthday song- which in hindsight, is all Dylan needed. SHE LOVED having all of us sing to her. Here's a caption of her dancing to our song and then the cake grab at the very end! INSTINCT? YES!

No spend September!(see updates in this post below)

It's NO SPEND SEPTEMBER MONTH!!!!
I got this brilliant idea from my neighbor when she decided to institute "no spend August" and here it is, already September--So I'm sure that August must have flown by for her, making it easy to not spend over and above any necessary items like groceries and gas. This is great timing for us, since September brings us the special gift of a LOT of extra expenses- like the school lunch program, dance classes, dance outfits, shoes, boots and all that stuff. I've managed to spend on all these items before "no spend September" so that we are all set up to tackle a month of no spending.. except I forgot to get my brow wax. I think I'll bring back the uni-brow. I hear it's very Brooke Shields.
Day one. Today, I will take some rolled coins to the bank, and some used toys to the consignment shop. Maybe today our house will sell?
Day two. Today I bought some essential groceries and some vitamins that I need to make the family unit run at top notch. (this is ALWAYS included as a necessity as far as Chris is concerned). I also got out the sewing machine and altered about 6 pieces of clothing that were too big or had a hole in them. This has made me feel like I have 6 new items of clothing. Also. I think we may have an offer coming in on the house sometime in the next couple of days. We are trying not to get ahead of ourselves- cuz you never know what kind of offer it might be!!!!!
Day Four. It's easy to not spend money when the weather is so lousy!!! ..inside, watching football while my 11mos old hunts down the nearest plug or cord to chew on. Husband making me dinner tonight! Second showing on the house tomorrow!!!!!
Day Seven. The long weekend was tough for us on this no spend thing. We didn't have any problem buying groceries, getting an oil change, gas for the car.. but it really was an eye opener on how much we drop on necessities too! We also found more time to do activities with the girls that didn't entail an admission.. in fact, Anna decided it was time to take the training wheels off! WHA!!!
On the subject of the house sale- we are in the counter offer stage and the possession date is probably going to be Oct. 15- with flexibility- so it could be November... papers should be signed by Sunday I hope and then the home inspection....
Day Nine. The house sale is on hold for now. Not because of anything we did.. it's coming from the buyer.. ..Had to buy the girls some ballet get ups for their classes I signed them up for in August. It almost felt like I was breaking the rules.
Day Seventeen. I haven't posted much about no spend September because life is boring when I can't spend money frivolously.
Day Twenty Four. Chris has been away since Monday. The girls and me have been sick all week. I still managed to take them to ballet, parent/teacher conference, the school bbq and back and forth to school 5 times in the car every day. No time to spend. I thought about it tho!! Tomorrow I get my hair cut. It's a necessity. Oh and I got that brow wax last week- I cheated. But you are all glad that I did.
